2020 Poughkeepsie Open Studios Artists' Corner

Artist Registration Open From February 14 Through May 1

Poughkeepsie Open Studios is a community event for our local community of artists, arts organizations, galleries, and art enthusiasts. Now in our 6th year, this is a great opportunity to meet people and to show them what we are passionate about. Visitors may have never seen your work before, nor even know that you are an artist. You will meet people that are exploring the possibilities of what "art" really is.  You may be the artist who inspires a young person to pursue a career in the arts. And you will have an inexpensive opportunity to sell your work or to meet an art enthusiast who may find a place in their home or business for your art in the future.

Artist Eligibility: Poughkeepsie Open Studios is open to artists in the Poughkeepsie area including the City of Poughkeepsie, the Town of Poughkeepsie, and immediately adjacent areas.  You must live in our area, have a studio in our area, teach art in our area, or be an artist with ties to the City of Poughkeepsie.

What is expected of artists:

  • Be present in your studio space and be prepared for both afternoons.

  • Be ready to talk about what you do, what motivates you, and how you work.

  • Help with event promotion, reaching out via e-mail and social media.

  • “Like” the Poughkeepsie Open Studios Facebook page.

  • Post on Facebook and Instagram about about your participation.

  • Share social media posts from others to help us expand our online presence.

  • Please tell artists in the area about this event and ask them to participate!

Pop-up Space:  Some artists may not have studio space suitable for hosting visitors, due to space constraints or accessibility limitations, or because the studio location is remote and isolated from other artists.  If this is your situation we will work with you to find suitable "pop-up studio" space in the City of Poughkeepsie in close proximity to other participating artists.  Success can not be guaranteed and free usable space is limited, so early registration is paramount.

Artist Registration Fee:  The artist registration fee will remain $20.00 for 2020 to cover the additional costs of the 40 page glossy event booklet that was very well-received last year.  We realize that this cost may represent a financial hardship for some artists so we also offer an alternative for a number of artists to volunteer a few hours of their time helping us out with event promotion.

Artist Information:  This year the "artist statement" will be optional.  If provided we ask that you keep it brief, to 100 words or so, to minimize the time required to format the text for the website, Facebook posts, and Instagram posts.  If you provide an artist statement we will use what you provide as is, so please proof read it!  Due to the new booklet format it is critical that artist images are of high quality.  We ask that your image be at least 1200 pixels on the longest side and less than 5MB in size. If you need help with getting the necessary image quality there is a checkbox on the registration form - just check the box and someone will get back to you.

If You Have Questions:  You can always contact us with questions at any time via the CONTACT page of this website.

How To Register:  You can select one of the three links below to register;  obviously it is easiest for us if you select the first button, Register and Pay Now, to register online and to pay the registration fee.  Use the  Register Now and Volunteer Later button to register now and to request that we put you on the volunteer list.  The third link, Download Registration Form, allows you to download the form to your computer so you can print it and send by mail.  Regardless of how you register, our organizing committee will review your information and will get back to you as soon as possible with any questions we might have.  Note that after registering you will need to email us one high resolution artwork image.
